Academic Qualification


B.A/B.Sc. Degree of the University of Calicut or a degree recognized as equivalent thereto under 10+2+3 pattern with 50% marks/grade in altogether / 50% Marks/grade for Part-III alone or Masters Degree with minimum 50% marks/grade or 10+2+5 pattern for Integrated M.A/M.Sc. Course or 10+2+3+2 pattern for M.Com,MBA and other eligible PG. However 10+2+3 Pattern is not insisted for B.A/B.Sc degree holders under liberalized scheme of the University of Calicut.


Bachelor's in Engineering or Bachelor's in Technology with 55% marks/grade in aggregate are eligible to apply for B.Ed programme in Physical Science and Mathematics optionals.
Candidates who have passed their qualifying examination from other Universities outside Kerala should submit/produce Equivalency Certificate issued by the University of Calicut stating that their qualifying examination is recognised as equivalent to University of Calicut for their admission in B.Ed. programme at the time of admission.

Candidate who passed their qualifying examination with courses/programmes other than notified from Universities in Kerala should also submit equivalency certificate at the time of admission.
Double or Triple main candidate or candidates who passed the Degree examination in Vocational or Specialized courses from other Universities outside Kerala are also eligible for admission. However, they have to submit the Equivalency Certificate of this University at the time of admission.

Candidates who passed their qualifying examination with double main/core are eligible to apply B.Ed Programme either in any one or both the subject as optional in B.Ed Programme.
The candidate with double main for their BA course are eligible to apply for B.Ed programme either in anyone or both the subjects of their BA degree as optional in B.Ed. They have to apply for each subject in separate applications.


The candidate who scored 50% marks/grade in aggregate / 50% Marks for Part-III alone in Bachelor's Degree or Masters degree with minimum 50% marks/grade are eligible to apply for B.Ed programme.


Rounding of marks of 0.5 and above to the highest figure shall not be done while calculating the percentage of marks for minimum eligibility.


Those candidates who had completed their qualifying examination from other Universities shall produce a percentage certificate from the University concerned, if the same is not mentioned in their final grade card/mark list. If they fail to submit the same at the time of admission, they will not be considered for admission.


Also any other qualification equivalent thereto or the eligibility requirements, rules and regulations for B.Ed programme fixed by the University of Calicut from time to time


Relaxation in Marks

SC/ST candidates including natives of Lakshadweep and candidates under Teacher Quota need only a pass in the qualifying examination.


Non- Teaching staff applying B.Ed programme under Teacher quota should fulfil the eligibility criteria notified for general/SEBC candidates.


Relaxation of 5% marks for OBC, SEBC and OEC candidates will be allowed to the minimum required marks.


Persons with Disabilities(PWD) candidates need only a pass in the qualifying examination, as per UO No.3233/2024/Admn, dated 24.02.2024.



Note: Candidates should be physically fit and mentally sound. Deaf/Dumb candidates are not eligible. However, blind candidates will be eligible for admission to the programme other than science optionals.

Note I: (a) Candidates who have eligible UG Degree and PG Degree the highest index mark will be considered for admission. 

(b) Those who are opting UG as the eligibility for B.Ed admission will get weightage for indexing if they have PG in the subject concerned.

Reservation of Seats

Types of reservation: Out of the total Merit seats available for various B.Ed. Courses, seats will be reserved for different categories under clauses 5.1.1 to 5.1.4

(1) Reservation for nominees

(2) Reservation for Persons with Disabilities

(3) Special Reservation

(4) Mandatory Reservation.


Reservation for nominees


(a) Lakshadweep Quota: One seat in each University Teacher Education Centres, One seat in IASE Thrissur and one seat in Government College of Teacher Education, Calicut is reserved for natives of Lakshadweep. (Eligible Candidates will be selected by the Lakshadweep Administration and intimated to the Principal concerned. Candidates will submit their applications to the Lakshadweep Administration)

(b) Quota for Candidates from Mahe: One seat in the Government College of Teacher Education, Calicut is reserved for candidates from Mahe. (Eligible Candidates will be selected by the Mahe Administration and intimated to the Principal concerned. Candidates will submit their applications to the Mahe Administration)


Reservation for Persons with Disabilities (PwD):

5% Reservation for eligible candidates under persons with disabilities (minimum 40% disability)
Deaf/Dumb candidates are not eligible for admission to the B. Ed. course
Blind candidates can apply for B. Ed. Programme other than Science Optional Subjects.

Special Reservation:

A) Teachers Quota [TQ]

(1) Government Training Colleges : 20 per cent of total seats in Government Colleges are reserved for Teachers working in Schools in the Government Sector. The eligible candidates for this quota will be selected by the Director of Public Instructions (DPI).

(2) In University Teacher Education Centres: 5 percent of total seats are reserved for candidates applying under Teacher quota.

(3) The teacher quota candidates need a mere pass in the qualifying examination and the candidates applying under this quota should be permanent teachers in Govt. Service/ Aided Sector of Kerala State. In the absence of qualifying candidates under Teacher Quota the vacancies shall be treated as Open Quota. Candidate should be a permanent teacher (Govt./Aided) continuing in service having a minimum of 3 years continuous teaching experience as on the date of notification.

(4) The period of service is considered on the basis of Service Certificate in Form IV of KER, duly certified by the Controlling Officer i.e. Head of the School and Countersigned by the AEO/DEO/Regional Deputy Director in the case of HSST. If continuous service of two candidates are same/equal, prior broken service ie, approved service – appointment by Employment Exchange/appointment in Leave vacancy will also be considered. If a tie still exists the marks in the qualifying examination will be considered. Those who are eligible to get study leave for the duration of the entire course from the authority concerned need alone apply and in case they are selected for the course, they should produce a certificate from the Head of School concerned that they have applied for eligible leave for the duration of the course before being admitted. Candidates applying under Teacher Quota can also apply under General Quota.

(5) Relaxation in teaching experience:
 
(a) TTC holders /HSST (Commerce) need only one year teaching experience.
(b) Permanent Teachers of Lakshadweep (natives)/LTTC/Diploma in Hindi Teaching/PPTTC need only two years experience.

B) Defence Quota [DQ]:

a) One seat in each Govt./Aided/ University Teacher Education Centre is reserved for this quota candidate. Order of priorities for reservation or preferences to the wards of Armed Forces Personnel by states/Uts/Central/State Universities/Autonomous Institutions for admission in Professional/Non-professional courses is detailed in Appendix III. Applicants will have to submit the relevant certificate applicable to them in support of the claim at the time of admission.

b) In the absence of candidates under defence priority list category for admission to B.Ed programme in Govt./Aided/ University Teacher Education centres. The son/daughters of personnel serving in Central Armed Police Force (CAPF)/Dependent of Armed Police Force Personnel KIlled/ Missed/Disabled in action will be considered as per the UO No.5719/2023/Admn dated 28.03.2023. The Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) include the organizations such as Assam Rifles(AR), Border Security Force (BSF),Central Reserved Police Force(CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force(CISF),Indo-Tibetan Border police (ITBP), National Security Guard (NSG), Sashastra Seema Bal(SSB).

C) Sports Quota: One seat in each Government, Aided and University Teacher Education centres are reserved for Sports Quota candidates.

Kerala State Sports Council, Thiruvananthapuram will prepare the rank list of the candidates under sports quota for B.Ed Admission for 2019 academic year onwards based on their proficiency in Sports as per U.O. NO.6840/2019/Admn dated 27.05.2019. The candidates applying under Sports Quota for B.Ed programme under University of Calicut should send a photocopy of the online application form along with copies of the qualifying certificates and certificates obtained in Sports to 'The Secretary, Kerala State Sports Council, Thiruvananthapuram 695001'. Kerala State Sports Council, Thiruvananthapuram will forward the rank list of candidates under sports quota to University of Calicut. Email Id : keralasportscouncil@gmail.com.


D) Linguistic Minority Quota:


a) 1 seat (within the sanctioned strength) at Institute of Advanced Studies in Education, Thrissur, 5 seats at University Teacher Education centre, Koduvayur are reserved for the linguistic minorities whose mother tongue is Tamil and residing in the jurisdiction of University of Calicut.


b) 2 seats in University Teacher Education centre, Kaniyambetta and 2 seats in University Teacher Education centre, Sulthan Bathery (total 4 in Wayanad District) are reserved for linguistic minorities whose mother tongue is Kannada and residing in the jurisdiction of University of Calicut. The admission under linguistic Minority quota in above mentioned centres is made subject to a maximum of one seat in each optional.


Mandatory Reservation: Leaving the seats set apart for Nominees, Persons with Disabilities and Special Reservations, the remaining seats for each course in a Govt. Colleges/University Teacher Education Centres will be distributed as per the mandatory reservation principle. Leaving the seats under reservation of seats applicable to Aided/Self-Financing Colleges, merit seats will be distributed as per mandatory reservation principle.

(a) SC/ST reservation- Shall be followed subject wise. Scheduled Caste - 8% of seats and Scheduled Tribe 2% of seats in each optional. In case sufficient eligible applicants under SC/ST quota are not available, the same will be filled up in the following priority.

SC seats: By ST/ OEC candidates. ST seats: By SC/OEC candidates.

(b) Socially and Educationally Backward Classes 30%- ETB 9%, MU 8%, OBH 3%, LA 3%, DV 2 %, VK 2 %, KN 1 % OBX 1%, KU 1 %. In private Self Financing Colleges 50% of the seats will be filled up on the basis of merit and by following the reservation policy of the State Government. The remaining 50% can be filled up by the educational agency (Management quota).

(c) Vacant seats in community quota, allowed in Aided Colleges, due to non-availability of candidates in that particular college will go to general merit.

Reservation of Seats for Economically Weaker Sections in general category:


10 % seats reserved for Economically weaker sections (EWS) who are not covered under existing scheme of reservation for the scheduled caste, the scheduled Tribe and the Socially and Educationally backward classes. EWS reservations are available in the affiliated training colleges/ centres( Other than minority institutions) where reservation to other backward classes are provided. (U.O.No. 4958/2020/Admn Dated, 29.05.2020 & U.O.No. 7158/2020/Admn Dated,28.07.2020,

7518/2021/Admn Dated 02/08/2021, U.O No. 10306/2022/Admn Dated 21.05.2022). For this purpose 10 % seats are additionally created over and above the sanctioned intake excluding management quota seats.


Candidates coming under SC/ST/OEC/SEBC are not eligible for EWS reservation. Only the general category candidates belonging to the Forward communities, who are economically backward, are eligible for EWS reservation. Please see G.O.(Ms) No.23/2022/P&ARD Dated 04.10.2022, which includes the format for EWS certificate to be obtained from Village Officer. An Income & Assets Certificate below Rs.4lakh (Appendix I) or AAY and PHH Certificate (Appendix II) issued from Village Officer/Tahsildar should be produced at the time of admission, by the candidates who wish to avail reservation under EWS category. Documents like ration card will not be accepted for availing reservation to this category.


Selection Criteria


Selection is made based on the aggregate marks/grade obtained by the applicants in the UG Degree / PG Degree Examination. This marks/grade will be converted in to 1000. A reduction of 1 % of the index mark for every repeated chance will be made.


Candidates who have eligible UG and PG degree for admission to any B.Ed options can calculate the index marks/grades of UG or PG degree whichever is higher.

Special weightage will be given to Post graduation in the subject concerned, First class-5. Second class -3, Third class - 1 marks in B.Ed language and non-language optionals. Special weightage of Post-graduation will be given only to the candidate whose index is calculated based on UG Degree marks/grade. No weightage will be given to post graduate qualification if it is in subjects other than the optional chosen for B.Ed programme.

5 marks weightage will be given to candidates who have taken notified eligible UG Degree/ Post graduation from University of Calicut.

Candidates who belong to the area under the jurisdiction of the University of Calicut will be given a weightage of 15 marks. Such candidates should produce a nativity certificate issued by the Village Officer/Tahasildar.

Candidates (applying under General Quota) having teaching experience in Govt/Aided Schools will be given a weightage of 0.1 score for every completed month of approved teaching service subject to a maximum of 5 points. Total approved service of applicant will also be considered in ranking. Approved service means full time teaching experience (as on the date of notification) in Government/Aided Schools in Kerala State which is to be duly certified by the Controlling Officer ie. Head of the school and Countersigned by the AEO/DEO/Regional Deputy Director in the case of HSST in Form IV of KER.

Those who have undergone N.C.C. training in UG Degree level with a minimum 75% of attendance will be given an additional of 5 marks. This will be added to the aggregate marks secured by the candidate in the qualifying Degree or PG as the case may be for B.Ed admission. NSS candidates/Students worked in the illiteracy Eradication programme in UG Degree level are eligible for 5 marks in their admission to B.Ed programme. Giving weightage marks for participation in NSS and NCC programmes during degree level only.

A weightage of 10 marks shall be given to the candidates who have completed the Under Graduate Degree Examination with Single main in subject concerned eligible for particular B.Ed options. The criteria of weightage to B.Ed admission for single main graduates can be applicable to the applicants who completed Integrated Post graduation also.

Those who have Integrated post graduation should select Integrated pattern for mark entry otherwise they will not be considered for admission.

Candidates to be exempted from the weightage (to be treated as not eligible for weightage):

(1). Bachelor's in Engineering or Bachelor's in Technology.
(2). Candidates
 
who apply for a B.Ed language optional on the basis of PG Degree and have no UG Degree notified for admission to that B.Ed programme.

In the case of applicants with double main and triple main subjects, admission will be based on aggregate marks/grade obtained by the applicant in the Double/Triple main degree examination and weightage for PG will be given on the subject which the applicant apply as optional.
